Following Tai Tuisamoa and Toby L’Estrange, a third Eagle in flanker John Quill has signed up to join Championship side London Welsh.
Originally from Cork and a member of the Munster academy and Ireland U18 representative, Quill who is half American through his mother, in 2012 and soon won a place in the USA team for the November tour of Europe starting all 3 matches and impressing. However in 2013 the 23 year old only won 4 caps as the availability of Samu Manoa and emergence of Cam Dolan at number 8 pushed Todd Clever onto the flanks and made competition tougher.
At the beginning of this season, Quill got a trial contract at Premiership club London Irish, but got injured immediately and it amounted to nothing and he returned home to Cork to play for Dolphin RFC in the AIB League.
But now London Welsh have come calling, and he is the third Eagle after lock Tai Tuisamoa and fly half Toby L’Estrange to join them. The Oxford based side are currently 4th in the Championship and have launched a recruitment drive to try and help them maintain that top 4 position and reach the playoffs for promotion. The potential link between the club and the USA is backs coach Billy Millard, who worked with London Welsh coach Justin Burnell at the Cardiff Blues for 2 years.
